Oscar Predictions 2008

This is completely unfounded and has no technical basis whatsoever. This is my gut:

Best Picture: In a guaranteed to be wrong pick, I’m going to go with Slumdog Millionare. I don’t think Milk will win Best Pic, Prop 8 rebuttals be damned. Which is why…

Best Director: Gus Van Sant, Milk

Best Actor: Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler OR Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon

Best Actress: Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight (accepted by Michelle Williams on behalf of her ex-husband.)

Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married

(A lot of people are talking about Hathaway as lead; I think they’ll nominate her as BSA in a surprise move to secure her the win. Also because I have no idea who the front runners for this are. Maybe Viola Davis for Doubt. You could also, very easily, see a switch on this and the Best Actress race, with Hathaway winning — although she very much falls into the Dreyfuss “too soon” rule — for RGM and Winslet winning for “The Reader” or something.)

Best Original Screenplay: Dustin Vance Black, Milk

Best Adapted Screenplay: Either Peter Morgan, Frost/Nixon or John Patrick Shanely, Doubt

  1. I still think Dark Knight has a chance of pulling it out. A nomination for sure. Slumdog was good, really good but…I don’t see it happening. It isn’t life changing or anything. Seeing Milk tomorrow, but from what I hear the direction and writing is nothing special, it’s Sean Penn’s performance and the real life story itself that are amazing. I think Penn could get his 2nd Oscar, though Frank Langella was effing amazing, and he did get a Tony for that role 2 years ago. And Heath I’m pretty sure is a lock. All for now!
